News from Christi for September 23

Hello my fellow singers!

It’s the first day of autumn, and what a beautiful day it was! My favourite parts of this season are: beautiful changing colours, the mum show at Gage park, pumpkin spice everything, turkey dinner, wearing sweaters, and singing with this wonderful group! I’ve missed you. It’s a busy term coming up and there are lots of things to talk about, so let’s get started with a message from Barb about an upcoming workshop:

“I am putting together a workshop with Brendan Taaffe on Wednesday, October 28th from 7:00 – 9:30 p.m.

Brendan has led the week long choir workshops I’ve attended in the USA and France. His repertoire is based on the traditional music of New England and Appalachia, with a strong influence of shape music. Added to that is his fascination with the music of Zimbabwe, where he has travelled and studied.  He does concerts and workshops around the world, picking up ideas for songs as he connects with local singers, and the countryside.

If you are interested in joining us on Wed Oct 28th, would you please let me know by Friday, October 23rd? If we are 20 or fewer we’ll use my home. If we are more, we’ll use MacNeill Baptist Church (Westdale).  Carpooling will be arranged to either location.  Suggested contribution $15 – 20, or pay what you can, refreshments included.

Brendan’s lovely voice, engaging manner, and inspiring songs have drawn me to his workshops again and again. I’m sure you’ll enjoy him too.”

“I’m going, as I’ve been wanted to work with Brendan for a long time!” Sue

Another important message from our resident coffee lady, Caroline:

“Hamilton Sings will again be using the selling of coffee as a fund raiser. The choir is looking for volunteers to help make coffee.  It involves arriving about 30 minutes before starting time, around 9:30, to put on coffee. We have one volunteer already who has agreed to help out every other week.

A small coffee at Tim Hortons sells for around $1.30, I believe.  This year we are thinking of raising the price  of a regular cup of coffee to only $1.25.  If you enjoy a cup of coffee during choir practice and think that you can buy into this idea we’d like you to commit to 3 months of coffee purchases.  At 4 cups a month that would be a cost of $15.  Knowing how many people will be drinking coffee will help us determine how much coffee to make.  Please inform Christi, at our next meeting on Sat. Sept. 26, if you would like to be part of the coffee club by making an advance purchase.  Thank you for your participation in helping to make Hamilton Sings even better!”

On a spookier note, we are planning on having some festive fun at our rehearsal on Saturday October 31. Dress in costume and we will have a costume contest and social time with refreshments! If you are interested in bringing cupcakes for the Halloween party, please let Cristi or Lori know asap.

Don’t forget to order your bulbs! I am attaching the Vesey’s order form for everyone to share with family, friends, and coworkers. Fifty percent of every order goes to the choir to help with our expenses. Thank you for participating.
